The quiet luxury golf look, explained

Walk any course this summer and you will notice something. The loud era is fading. The oversized logos, the clashing prints, the sense that a golfer must be a walking billboard, all of it is quietly being packed away. In its place is something calmer and, frankly, more grown up. The trade calls it quiet luxury. We just call it dressing properly.

It is worth understanding what the look actually is, because it is easy to mistake for simply owning expensive things. It is not that.

What quiet luxury really means

Quiet luxury is confidence without volume. It is a wardrobe that does its talking through cut, cloth and colour rather than through a name printed across the chest. The palette is restrained, built on whites, stones and warm neutrals with colour used sparingly. The silhouettes are clean and considered. The logos are small or absent. Nothing shouts, because nothing needs to.

On a golf course this reads as a kind of ease. The player who looks best is rarely the one wearing the most. It is the one whose polo fits, whose colours agree with one another, and whose clothes look as though they were chosen rather than assembled. That is the whole trick, and it is a matter of judgement, not budget.

Why it has taken over in 2026

The pendulum was always going to swing. After years of maximal prints and athletic branding, golfers have started to want clothes that last longer than a season and look right in more than one setting. The premium end of the game has moved decisively back toward classic silhouettes and better fabrics, and the wider trade has followed.

There is a practical logic under the aesthetics. A restrained, well made wardrobe is simply more useful. A clean polo in a neutral tone works with everything you own, this year and in three years. A considered piece survives more washes and more rounds. Quiet luxury is partly a taste and partly a refusal to keep buying the same thing badly.

A house that never did it any other way

For some brands, this is a pivot. For us it is simply the last hundred and twenty years.

Oscar Jacobson has been making clothes in Sweden since 1903. Swedish design has a long, unglamorous faith in restraint: good materials, honest construction, nothing added that does not earn its place. That is not a marketing position we adopted when the trend arrived. It is the culture the house was built in, and it happens to be exactly what quiet luxury describes.

You can see it in the details we care about and the ones we leave out. A collar with proper structure. A colour palette drawn from the landscape rather than the trend board. A logo you have to look for. We were making understated golf wear long before the word understated became a selling point.

How to wear it

Building the look is refreshingly simple. Start with a neutral base, a white or stone polo that fits cleanly at the shoulder. Keep the whole outfit within two or three tones that sit near one another rather than fight. Let texture do the work that a print used to: a fine knit, a jacquard, a considered fabric reads as richness without saying a word.

Add a single considered layer rather than three competing ones. A knit or a clean mid layer in the same family of tones finishes an outfit without cluttering it. Then stop. Fit matters more here than anywhere, because there is no print to hide behind. A quiet outfit that fits well looks expensive. The same outfit cut too loose or too tight just looks plain. Spend the attention you used to spend on choosing a pattern on getting the shoulders, the sleeve and the length right instead. That is where the eye actually reads quality.

Quiet luxury is not a look you buy in one go. It is a habit of choosing well and choosing less. Done properly, nobody notices your clothes at all. They just notice that you look right, and they cannot quite say why. That has been the Swedish idea of elegance for well over a century, and it suits a golf course rather beautifully.
